Is Science Truly Open to Everyone? – OSCN Relaunch Event!

What role should the public play in research? And should all researchers openly share their teaching materials? Today, science is all about collaboration and transparency. Thanks to Citizen Science, non-scientists can actively participate in research. But to what extent does/should/can societal engagement really contribute to science? In education, the demand for Open Education is growing. Imagine teachers making their course materials freely available to everyone. Are researchers ready to use each other’s work, and will it really improve their lives as teachers? How far are we willing to go with these changes? Come and share your thoughts on the openness of research and education.

This lecture is organized in collaboration with Radboud Reflects, the Radboud Open Science Programme, and the Open Science Community Nijmegen. The event is open to all researchers and staff from Radboud University, Radboudumc, the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, and HAN University of Applied Sciences. Admission is free.

Open Science Community Relaunch

We are back!

It’s been a long time since our last post, and we are back with some news!
The Open Science Community is growing and has extended beyond the borders of the Netherlands, or even Europe – Open Science Communities have gone global!

A world map showing the location of all Open Science Communities worldwide, with a special focus on the European and especially Dutch Open Science Communities.
A number of Open Science Communities are marked as being in preparation.

As the Open Science Community is growing worldwide, we have also moved our website into a more integrated environment. It is now possible to sign up as a member to your local (Nijmegen) Open Science Community, to allow for easier contact and exchange within the community. Please sign up if you want to be part of our community, and sign up for the Newsletter if you want to be updated about events of the Open Science Community or other events and developments regarding Open Science in Nijmegen and the Netherlands.

Another great development regards funding for the Open Science Communities: Through the NWO we were able to secure funding for the Open Science Community Nijmegen, which will allow us to support the community core members, rebuild the community and celebrate this with a Relaunch Event in the upcoming months! We will keep you posted about this, as soon as a date has been set!

We are looking forward to rebuild this community with you, spread the word about Open Science and Open Science Communities around the world & support each other in developing and engaging in Open Science practices!

OSC-NL National Open Science Week from 23 to 27 September 2024

To celebrate and recognize the crucial role of Open Science in the advancement of science, the Network of Open Science Communities in the Netherlands (OSC-NL) organises its first OSC-NL National Open Science Week from 23 to 27 September 2024.

Although Open Science contributes to more transparent and inclusive research, its practical implementation is often challenging.

This Open Science Week aims to address these challenges by raising awareness of the various support services and structures that exist, such as local and thematic Digital Competency Centers, Open Science Programmes, Open Science Communities (OSCs) etc. Designed to facilitate the application of Open Science principles, these resources provide researchers and research supporters with the tools and funding necessary to adopt more open and collaborative research practices.  Read more
